This simple spinach banana and ginger smoothie is refreshing, satiating, customizable, and quick to fix up on a busy morning! In the category of vibrant vegan smoothies, love a zippy green one with ginger. The orange juice, frozen banana, vanilla, cinnamon, and a smidge of cayenne work so nicely as flavor compliments.

I do a vegan green smoothie pretty much every morning lately, and this spinach banana and ginger smoothie one of my go-tos when Iโm craving a more fruit and freshness-forward option. Itโs not too sweet, and I love that it simply comes together with 10 ingredients. Baby spinach goes basically undetected in this blend, so itโs my green of choice.
If you donโt enjoy bananas in your smoothies, I recommend substituting an equal amount of either frozen ripe pear, frozen peaches, or even frozen avocado if youโre trying to bring the sugar down. All options work great with the other ingredients. For another smoothie that relies on the spinach and banana combo, I recommend checking out my peanut butter vanilla green shake.
I do love how unabashedly fruity this smoothie is! The refreshing, energizing, and invigorating qualities feel particularly good first thing in the morning!

5-Minute Spinach Banana & Ginger Smoothie

Ingredients
- 1 cup orange juice
- squeeze of lemon juice
- 2- inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- ยผ teaspoon cinnamon
- ยผ teaspoon vanilla
- pinch sea salt
- pinch cayenne (optional)
- 2 cups baby spinach
- 1 ripe banana, preferably frozen
Equipment
Notes
- Because I call for 2 packed cups, super mild baby spinach is my preferred green for this smoothie.
- You could substitute the banana with a handful of frozen pineapple or mango, or even some frozen avocado if you want to bring the sugar down a bit.
Instructions
- In an upright blender, combine the orange juice, lemon juice, ginger, protein powder, cinnamon, vanilla, salt, cayenne, baby spinach, and the frozen banana. Bring the blenderโs speed up to high and run until liquid is completely smooth. Enjoy immediately.

Wow! This was a good combo! I used the Sprout Living protein powder that I just got in the mail. I also used Cara Cara oranges for the orange juice and that was a bit sweet.
So glad you enjoyed it, Emily! :)

This is so delicious/tangy/spicy and a perfect, energizing way to start your day!
Do you think this would turn out well if I put all ingredients in a freezer bag, freeze it, and then toss it in the blender a few days later? Trying to think of easy ways to โmeal prepโ with this.ย
Hi Dawn! i think you could freeze everything in portions minus any liquid, and youโd be good! To blend, just put the pre-portioned ingredients into your blender and add the OJ/squeeze of lemon and youโll be good to go!

All your smoothies are so good!ย I subbed pineapple juice here and it turned out amazingly.ย My smoothies (just throwing things in the blender) never turned out well until I started using your recipes.
I was looking for a way to get more spinach/greens in my diet and came across this recipe. SO delicious! love how the ginger and cinnamon add a nice kick. I also substituted tangerine juice for orange juice and itโs great. Iโve already made this a couple of times and look forward to having this in my smoothie rotation. Thanks for a great recipe!!
